Modelling of Flow-Induced Vibration of Bluff Bodies: A Comprehensive Survey and Future Prospects

A comprehensive review of modelling techniques for the flow-induced vibration (FIV) bluff bodies is presented. This phenomenology involves bidirectional fluid–structure interaction (FSI) coupled with non-linear dynamics. In addition to experimental investigations this phenomenon in wind tunnels and water channels, a number methodologies have become important study various aspects FIV response bodies. paper reviews three different approaches phenomenology. Firstly, we consider mathematical (semi-analytical) types responses: namely, vortex-induced (VIV), galloping, combined VIV-galloping. Secondly, conventional numerical involving computational fluid dynamics (CFD) described, namely: direct simulation (DNS), large-eddy (LES), detached-eddy (DES), Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) modelling. Emergent machine learning (ML) based on data-driven methods model are also reviewed (e.g., reduced-order application deep neural networks).
